[Syria and Hezbollah now have guided missiles which defy Israel's aerial supremacy]

Israeli Military Intelligence chief Major General Amos Yadlin took his leave from the Israel cabinet Sunday, November 21, with a stern warning: “Tel Aviv will be a front line in the next conflict,” he said. DEBKAfile‘s military sources report: Syria and Hizballah now possess thousands of surface missiles from Iran with enhanced ranges of up to 300 kilometers and they are being outfitted by Iranian engineers with guidance systems. The new guided Fateh-110, M-600 and Scud D missile hardware can pinpoint any part of Israel within a 10-meter radius in defiance of Israel’s aerial and anti-missile capabilities, say Israeli and Western missile experts. Hizballah and Syria have been furnished by Iran with the means for fighting a new, far more comprehensive war. All of Syria’s chemical Scud C and D warheads have been converted into guided missiles, and so have the 1,000 Scud Ds kept in Syrian bases near the Lebanese border ready to push across to Hizballah in a military confrontation with Israel, which Hassan Nasrallah said ten days ago he would welcome. During the three-week war of 2006, Hizballah launched 500 rockets a day – relying on sheer, terrifying numbers against populated areas, mostly in the North – to bring Israeli armed forces low. A dozen a day of the guided, long-range weapons would do far more damage, say our military sources. Iran’s allies would likely go for Greater Tel Aviv in order to sow demoralization in the most densely populated part of Israel and devastate its industrial and financial centers …

Abbas: No talks without East Jerusalem building freeze

The Palestinian Authority will not return to peace talks with Israel unless there is a freeze on settlement building that includes East Jerusalem, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday. Abbas, in Egypt for talks with President Hosni Mubarak, said the Palestinians and Israel had received no official US request to return to talks which stalled three weeks after their launch in September when an Israeli settlement freeze expired. Asked if the Palestinian Authority would agree to resume the talks if a new settlement freeze did not include East Jerusalem, Abbas said: “If there is no complete halt to settlements in all of the Palestinian territories including Jerusalem, we will not accept.” …

[Editor's Note: Because Hezbollah will undoubtedly be militarily activated during the forthcoming Iran/Israel conflagration, it is virtually unavoidable that the nation of Lebanon is likely to suffer horrifying destruction at the hands of Israeli weapons of mass destruction. Utilizing the power of international law, those factions seeking to indict Hezbollah for participation in the murder of Lebanon's former PM have hoped for a political resolution. The unfortunate truth is, Hezbollah, as a surrogate of Syria and Iran (just as Hamas is Iran's pawn in Gaza), must be dealt with in a military fashion.

As Israel continues to attempt to negotiate an agreement that will diplomatically neutralize the Palestinian Authority's participation during the forthcoming conflict (largely due to their close proximity to Israeli civilian populations), the American military buildup is a tacit acknowledgement that the entire Middle Eastern area will explode at some point in the near future. Israeli officials: Obama to call world summit if Mid East peace talks fail (www.ChristianMediaNetwork)

U.S. President Barack Obama has told several European leaders that if Israeli-Palestinian talks remain stalemated into September or October, he will convene an international summit on achieving Mideast peace, senior Israeli officials told Haaretz on Thursday. The officials said the conference would be run by the Quartet of Middle East peacemakers – the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia – in a bid to forge a united global front for creating a Palestinian state. The summit, they said, would address such core issues as borders, security arrangements, Palestinian refugees and the status of Jerusalem. Obama is determined to exert his influence to establish a Palestinian state, the officials said, and several European leaders have vowed that the EU would support any peace plan proposed by Washington. Therefore, though so-called proximity talks are set to start in the coming weeks, Obama is already readying for the possibility that the indirect Israeli-Palestinian talks might reach a dead end. The U.S. proposal would likely be presented by the end of this year, the officials said. On Saturday night (May 1), Arab League foreign ministers will convene to reiterate their support for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to begin the U.S.-mediated talks. The Arab bloc is expected to demand that the negotiations show progress within four months. September and October will thus be critical months in determining whether the talks have borne fruit. The UN General Assembly will reconvene in late September, and that month will also mark one year since Obama hosted a largely unproductive trilateral summit with Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In addition, September 26 marks the end of the 10-month period Israel allocated for a freeze on West Bank settlement construction, and Netanyahu will have to decide whether to allow such building to be resumed.  Israeli officials said they believe Obama could postpone the international summit, or the unveiling of his own peace plan, until after the midterm Congressional elections in November, in which his Democratic Party is widely expected to suffer heavy losses.
